I am MAY I am Spring possibility After last month's showers they say I bring floral brilliancy My namesake is possibly For the Greek goddess Maia Or perhaps I am as Ovid dreamed Latin for "elders," maiores I am Mother May— I Am for Memorials, Mothers, and May Days For all honored, I am grateful for your light For your work, your lives, and your prayers As the fifth Gregorian and Julian one I am the refreshing bright blush of sky As I am just heating up I am the wind springing and quiet I am lush new leaves I am breezy bursting buds I am spectacular sprouting trees I am Summer starting-up I am with the lilies of the valley Sweating while rejuvenating by the hours Like mayapples ripen and fall, I am happy I am emerging like mayflowers I am full of graduations and commencements Conductor, rider, cyclist, walker, and runner I am your annual month of advancement I am your bridge from Spring to Summer I am gorgeous color turning up I am blossoms sprouting still I am azaleas, hyacinth, and tulips I am peonies, lilacs, and daffodils I am the birdsong chorus in bloom As I change what underlies Canopy-through I am the flower moon I am Taurus to Gemini I am each emerald depth Manifesting this festival I am love and success May our Mays be plentiful
